Miyazu City is located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture along the Sea of Japan coast, and is home to Amanohashidate, one of Japan's three most scenic views. This is a sandbar about 3.6 kilometres long, densely covered with pine trees, and when viewed from the cable car at Kasamatsu Park, it appears as an inverted flying dragon. The boat houses (traditional fishermen's houses built on the water) in Ine Town are rustic and tranquil. Chion-ji Temple has a long history. The local cuisine is represented by Amanohashidate clam rice bowl, Tajima beef, Miyazu crab, fresh oysters, and bannou sauce (a local speciality seasoning), offering rich and savoury seafood flavours.
