Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi is located northwest of Bangkok, a hidden gem blending profound history with pristine nature. The iconic Bridge over the River Kwai is the throat of the WWII “Death Railway”, with the iron bridge and flowing waters recounting history at sunset; the Tham Krasae section of the Death Railway is breathtakingly perilous, with elevated tracks suspended on cliffs; Erawan Falls (Erawan Waterfall) is a seven-tiered cascade with emerald-coloured water, perfect for swimming and playing; the Kanchanaburi War Museum and the Allied War Cemetery record the tragic history of prisoners of war building the railway; you can also experience bamboo rafting on the River Kwai, forest hot springs, and safari adventures. The cuisine is represented by Thai curry, grilled lemongrass fish, bamboo shoot soup from the River Kwai, grilled pork sticky rice, and iced coffee. Dining at riverside wooden restaurants while enjoying the view offers a unique flavour.
