Shimoda City is located at the southeastern tip of the Izu Peninsula. Shimoda Port was one of the ports opened at the end of the Edo period, and Perry Park commemorates the Black Ships event. Shimoda Onsen is a long-established hot spring area in Izu. Shirahama Beach features pure white sand, while Rendaiji Onsen offers a tranquil atmosphere. Izu Oshima (accessible by ferry) has unique volcanic landscapes. The local cuisine is characterised by Izu seafood, golden eye snapper, prawns and crabs, onsen eggs, Shimoda sushi, and fresh fruit.
