Shizuoka City
Shizuoka City is the capital of Shizuoka Prefecture, the “Tea Capital” at the foot of Mount Fuji, with captivating views of Suruga Bay. Shizuoka Sengen Shrine boasts a long history. Sumpu Park was originally the residence of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The southern foothills of Mount Fuji offer excellent viewpoints, and Nihondaira provides a panoramic view of Mount Fuji and Suruga Bay. As Japan’s premier tea-growing region, Shizuoka’s matcha and sencha are renowned worldwide. Local cuisine features Shizuoka ochazuke (tea rice porridge), tea porridge, and tea desserts; Suruga Bay seafood (sakura shrimp, squid, tuna), Fujinomiya yakisoba, Shizuoka sushi, and Hamamatsu gyoza are authentic in flavour.
