Chichibu City

Chichibu City is a treasure trove of nature and culture near Tokyo, surrounded by mountains. The Shibazakura Hill (mid-April) at Hitsujiyama Park is one of the largest phlox subulata sites in Japan, with a carpet of pink and purple blossoms. Chichibu Shrine has a long history. The Chichibu Night Festival (early December) is one of Japan's three major eccentric festivals, featuring spectacular giant float processions and fireworks. The Nagatoro River valley offers stunning rock formations and autumn leaves. Local specialities include Chichibu sweetfish dishes, Chichibu soba noodles, wild vegetable hot pot, chestnut rice, Chichibu Meisen (textiles), and unique local sweets.
