Yuzawa

Yuzawa Town (Echigo-Yuzawa) is a renowned ski and hot spring destination in Japan, and the setting for Yasunari Kawabata's "Snow Country." With 12 ski resorts including Yuzawa Kogen boasting high-quality powder snow, it's just one hour from Tokyo. The hot springs of Yuzawa have excellent water quality. At the Sake Museum (Ponschukan), visitors can sample over 100 varieties of Niigata sake and experience rice wine baths. In summer, it's a popular retreat and hiking area. Local cuisine features dishes like Echigo sake-infused cooking, Yuzawa ramen, charcoal-grilled meat, Niigata rice, winter hot pot, and seasonal wild vegetables—all rich in flavour and perfect when paired with sake.
