Tottori Prefecture is a hidden gem in the San'in region, home to the Tottori Sand Dunes (Japan's largest coastal sand dunes), where you can ride camels, sandboard, and watch the sunrise over the sea. Mount Daisen is known as the 'Japanese Alps', ideal for hiking and skiing all year round. Conan Town (Hokuei Town) is the birthplace of the author of Detective Conan, with statues and a museum dedicated to the character scattered throughout the streets. Shirahama Beach is rich in mythological atmosphere. The local cuisine is represented by Matsuba crab (a winter delicacy), 20th-century pears, beef bone ramen, and San'in seafood hotpot.
