Hiroshima Prefecture (Japan)
Hiroshima Prefecture is located in the Chugoku region, facing the Seto Inland Sea to the south, where history and nature blend. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome are UNESCO World Heritage sites, commemorating history. Itsukushima Shrine (Miyajima) is one of Japan's Three Great Views, with its floating torii gate appearing to drift on the sea at high tide, a sacred and spectacular sight. Shukkeien is an exquisite Japanese-style garden. Hiroshima Castle's keep has been reconstructed to reflect the Warring States period. In terms of cuisine, Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (a multi-layered pancake with fried noodles) is famous. Hiroshima oysters (plump, sweet, and delicious whether grilled, fried, or in kamameshi), momiji manju (maple-leaf-shaped red bean sweets), and anago sushi (conger eel sushi) are must-try flavours.
