Tokyo Prefecture
Tokyo (Japanese: 東京都/とうきょうと Tōkyō to) is a first-level administrative division located in the Kanto region of Japan, and is also the capital of Japan. It is the only administrative division in Japan named with the character 'to' (metropolis). Tokyo is one of the world's leading gastronomic capitals. In addition to traditional Japanese cuisine, foreign cuisines such as Western and Chinese food have enriched and diversified Tokyo's food culture. The historical and cultural tourism resources of Tokyo are mainly concentrated in the Tokyo special wards area. The area from Ueno Park in Taito City to Senso-ji Temple is the best place to experience the traditional shitamachi atmosphere of Tokyo. Tokyo also has numerous cultural and entertainment-themed attractions. The Ghibli Museum, Mitaka, headed by Hayao Miyazaki, faithfully recreates the worldviews of Studio Ghibli works. The Tokiwaso Manga Museum in Toshima City recreates the Tokiwaso apartment where manga artists such as Osamu Tezuka and Fujio Akatsuka once lived. The Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum is a personal art museum displaying the art collection of Machiko Hasegawa, the creator of 'Sazae-san' and recipient of the People's Honour Award. Located near Shinjuku Station, Shinjuku Gyoen features various types of garden landscapes, including a Japanese garden, a French garden, and an English garden.
