Phuket Island

Phuket Island (Thai: จังหวัดภูเก็ต, Royal Thai General System of Transcription: Changwat Phuket), historically known to the Chinese as Thong Khao or Thong Khao Pho, and referred to by the Malays as Bukit (Malay: Bukit), is one of the 77 first-level administrative divisions of Thailand. Its capital is Phuket City, which shares the same name as the province. Phuket offers numerous tourist attractions: Wat Chalong, the Big Buddha of Phuket, Phuket Aquarium, Phuket Shell Museum, Phuket Thai Village and Orchid Garden, Phuket Fantasea, located at Patong Beach, the Khao Phra Taew Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension Centre, and the Phuket Shooting Club, which provides rifles and pistols of various calibres for visitors to practise shooting.
