Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture

Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture is the largest Yi ethnic settlement in China, with its capital Xichang known as the 'Space City' and 'Little Spring City'. Key attractions include Lugu Lake (plateau pearl, matriarchal Mosuo culture and pig trough boat experience), Qionghai Lake – Lushan Mountain (Xichang's mother lake, lake and mountain scenery + mountain climbing for panoramic views), the Ninety-Nine Li Hot Spring Waterfall at Luoji Mountain (the world's largest hot spring waterfall, a blend of ice and fire), and Jianchang Ancient City. The cuisine embodies the boldness of the Yi people, with tuotuo rou made from highland black-bone pigs, large chunks savoury and fresh; Xichang fire-pot barbecue sizzling with oil; Liangshan burgers (grilled potatoes stuffed with meat), yuangen sour vegetable soup, and jihuo si'er kuai (chicken and ham rice cake) as authentic local snacks.
