Meishan

Meishan is the hometown of the "Three Sus" (Su Xun, Su Shi, and Su Zhe), renowned literary figures of the Northern Song dynasty. Key attractions include the Three Sus Temple (an ancient shrine where visitors can immerse themselves in Dongpo culture among pavilions and terraces), Mount Wawu (a rare table-shaped highland with summer forests and winter snowscapes), and the ancient town of Liujiang (a misty riverside settlement in western Sichuan, featuring stilted houses and historic bridges). The local cuisine is deeply tied to the Dongpo culture: Dongpo braised pork belly is rich yet not greasy, tender and flavourful; Dongpo fish is fresh and savoury; Renshou sesame cake is sweet and chewy; Danleng fermented rice cake is soft and springy; Hongya bobo chicken is spicy and aromatic. The snacks are exquisite, while the main dishes are hearty and robust.
