Leshan
Leshan, known as Jiazhou in ancient times, is located in the southwest of the Sichuan Basin, where the Min, Qingyi and Dadu Rivers converge. It is a UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage city. Key attractions include the Leshan Giant Buddha (a 71-metre Tang Dynasty cliff-side seated Maitreya statue), Mount Emei (one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains, featuring the four marvels of sea of clouds, sunrise, Buddhist halo and sacred lamps), Suji Ancient Town and the Jiayang Small Train. Its cuisine is unparalleled in Sichuan — "Eat in Sichuan, taste in Leshan". Must-try dishes include braised beef, sweet-skinned duck, bobochicken, and tofu pudding, which are spicy, savoury and richly infused with local street flavours.
