Xi'an City
Xi'an is the ancient capital of 13 dynasties and the starting point of the Silk Road. Key attractions include the Terracotta Warriors (the Eighth Wonder of the World, burial pits of Qin Shihuang's mausoleum, impressive army of terracotta figures), the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (where Xuanzang stored scriptures, with splendid night views at the Tang Dynasty Everbright City), the City Wall (the largest and most complete ancient city wall in China, suitable for cycling around the city), and Huaqing Pool (royal hot springs, performance of 'The Song of Everlasting Sorrow'). Local delicacies include the roujiamo (crispy outside and tender inside), biangbiang noodles (wide and chewy), zenggao (soft and sticky), and yangrou paomo (lamb soup with bread, which requires hand-tearing the bread, showcasing the flavours of Guanzhong).
