Suizhou, known in ancient times as the Land of Handong, is the hometown of Emperor Yan (Yan Di) and the place where the chime bells were unearthed. Key attractions include the Yan Di Hometown Scenic Area (a grand site for worshipping Emperor Yan), the Tomb of Marquis Yi of Zeng (where Warring States chime bells were excavated, rewriting world music history), and the Dahongshan Scenic Area (a Buddhist sacred site featuring Hongshan Temple, karst caves, and waterfalls). The local cuisine is dominated by northern Hubei flavours: Guangshui smooth meat is tender and delicious, Suizhou Paopao Green is crisp and sweet, suitable for stir-frying or cold dressing; Anju dried bean curd skin and Lishan fermented bean curd are local specialties, and ginkgo nuts are one of Suizhou's special products.
