Quanzhou, known historically as "Zaitun" (刺桐), is recognised by the United Nations as the starting point of the Maritime Silk Road and is hailed as "the World Museum of Religions". Here you will find the landmark Kaiyuan Temple (with the East and West Pagodas), the oldest existing Islamic mosque in China – the Qingjing Mosque, the Taoist sacred site of Qingyuan Mountain (with the Laozi Rock), and the Luoyang Bridge, one of the four great ancient bridges in China.
