Fuzhou, also known as Rongcheng, is traversed by the Min River and is one of the starting points of the Maritime Silk Road. Popular attractions include Three Lanes and Seven Alleys (a cluster of Ming and Qing ancient buildings, the cultural artery of Fuzhou, and a concentration of former residences of notable figures), Gushan (with Yongquan Temple, and a panoramic view of Fuzhou city from the summit), West Lake Park (a classical garden in the city centre), and Pingtan Island (known for its 'blue tears' and coastal scenery). Signature dishes include Buddha Jumps Over the Wall (the pinnacle of Fujian cuisine, rich in ingredients, full-bodied and umami), bouncy fish balls, thin-skinned meat swallows, crispy-on-the-outside-and-tender-on-the-inside oyster cakes, as well as specialty products like olives and Fuzhou oranges, all showcasing the flavours of Fujian cuisine.
