Zhoushan
Zhoushan is the City of a Thousand Islands, the largest archipelago in China, and the centre of the East China Sea fishing grounds. Key attractions include Mount Putuo (one of the four most famous Buddhist mountains in China, a sacred site of Guanyin, known as the 'Buddhist Heaven on the Sea'), Zhujiajian (Nansha Beach, sand sculpture art), Dongji Island (the easternmost island of China, where you can see the first rays of sunlight in China, offering island scenery), and Shengsi Islands (island holiday, seafood cuisine). The local cuisine highlights fresh seafood, featuring steamed hairy crabs, scallion oil sea snails, seafood noodle soup with rich broth and generous ingredients, fresh and tender Zhoushan beltfish, as well as dried fish (yu xiang) and dried shrimp (xia gan) — all showcasing the flavours of the East China Sea.
