Shaoguan (Guangdong)
Located in the north of Guangdong, Shaoguan serves as the gateway to northern Guangdong, boasting both natural landscapes and cultural heritage. The core attraction, Mount Danxia, is a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site and the namesake of Danxia landform, featuring magnificent red cliffs, the Yangyuan Stone, and breathtaking bamboo rafting on the Jinjiang River. Nanhua Temple, a sacred site of Zen Buddhism where the Sixth Patriarch Huineng preached, exudes ancient tranquillity. The Guangdong Grand Canyon impresses with its majestic waterfalls. Zhuji Ancient Alley is a place for Cantonese people to trace their roots. The local cuisine is predominantly Hakka from northern Guangdong, including savoury and juicy Hakka stuffed tofu, rich but not greasy Datang braised pork belly, sour and spicy Nanxiong braised duck with pickled bamboo shoots, and refreshing Longgui cold pig tripe. Other mountain delicacies include Danxia dried bamboo shoots and Yaoshan cured meat.
