The "Peace Wall" on the Peace Line in the west of Belfast was built to separate Catholic and Protestant residential areas and reduce conflicts between paramilitary organizations on both sides. The first section of the Peace Wall was built in 1974. The wall was specially fortified in the summer of 2003, on the eve of a traditional Protestant parade to celebrate the historic defeat of King William III by the Irish army. Now, it has become a tourist attraction in the city, where people come to pay homage to the past and sigh the preciousness of peace.
