Kunsthal Rotterdam Unveils Renewed Entrance Area and Cafe Alongside Upcoming Design Exhibition
The entrance area of Kunsthal Rotterdam has undergone a complete redesign this summer, courtesy of Van Oosterom Studio. The updated space encompasses the entrance, shop, ticket desk, and the Kunsthal Cafe, aiming to function as a welcoming meeting place for visitors, events, and exhibition openings.

Working in collaboration with hospitality partner Vermaat and Rotterdam-based chef and food curator Perry de Man, known for 24Kitchen, the Kunsthal Cafe features a contemporary menu built on locally sourced products. Visitors can stop by during opening hours for coffee, sweet treats, lunch dishes, snacks, wines by the glass, and a selection of virgin cocktails.
Design and Architecture

The layout respects the original 1992 architecture designed by Rem Koolhaas / OMA. Restoration efforts have uncovered the original concrete structures and the ceiling featuring Günther Förg's neon artwork. Van Oosterom Studio added custom-made furniture, dark green mohair benches, hand-inked marble tables, and a polished steel wall behind the bar that reflects both the neon installation and the greenery of the adjacent Museumpark. The renovated terrace now connects more fluidly with the interior space.

Exhibition Details
Complementing the new design focus, Kunsthal Rotterdam is set to present the exhibition A Chair and You from September 26, 2026, through January 31, 2027. Staged by Robert Wilson, the theatrical presentation draws from the private chair collection of Thierry Barbier-Mueller, offering a sensory experience centred on everyday design objects.
