What's New and Open in Rotterdam

Rotterdam features several recent additions and newly restored landmarks for visitors. The FENIX Museum of Migration opened on 16 May 2025 at Paul Nijghkade 5 in a restored Katendrecht warehouse designed by MAD Architects. Additionally, the Euromast observation tower at Parkhaven 20 reopened on 1 July 2026 following renovations to its restaurant and crow's nest, offering a new entrance experience, a rotating lift, and a transparent floor section in the Euroscoop.

Food and neighbourhood spots continue to evolve across the city. Katendrecht adds new venues through 2026, including an oyster bistro on Noordplein and Eatery 't Meisje on Brede Hilledijk, alongside the established Fenix Food Factory food hall. Meanwhile, Pannekoekstraat at 3011 LM Rotterdam functions as a growing cluster of restaurants and bars.

Upcoming Events

The first edition of the Dutch Sustainable Fashion Week Rotterdam runs from 7 to 11 October 2026 across Koopgoot, Binnenwegplein, Zuidplein, and Lijnbaan, featuring pop-up stores and fashion shows.

Transport and Construction Notices

Visitors should plan around several major infrastructure projects and transit alterations:

Rotterdam Update: FENIX Museum, Euromast Reopening and Central Transit Detours

  • Hofplein and Coolsingel: Hofplein is undergoing a phased reconstruction into a green square from April 2025 to the end of 2027. Trams do not cross Hofplein between 18 July and 22 November 2026, affecting 10 lines with adjusted routes. Coolsingel remains accessible by car, bike, and foot via signed detours.

  • Kruisplein and Westersingel: Kruisplein is closed to through traffic between Weena and West-Kruiskade during construction of The Modernist office tower. Westersingel sewer and district-heating works are scheduled from January through the end of 2027.

  • Laurenskerk: The church remains open, but its main Marcussen organ has been dismantled since 2025 for a nearly €2.9 million restoration and will stay out of use for roughly two years.

  • Diergaarde Blijdorp: The zoo remains fully open, though individual enclosures such as the bison and lemur habitats cycle through renovation work during 2026.

Temporary Closures and Changes

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen's main building at Museumpark 18-20 remains closed for renovation, with its reopening date shifted to 2030 and construction starting in late 2026; visitors can access the Depot instead. Miniworld Rotterdam at Weena 745 operates as of September 2026 following a bankruptcy and reopening under new backer Wim Beelen, though it is scheduled to close after the autumn 2026 half-term break for demolition and relocation to Doklaan in Rotterdam-Zuid.
