Top Beach Spots and Local Highlights
Different sections of the coast cater to specific activities and travel styles:
Tallebudgera Creek: This blue estuary is suitable for calm swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, and paddleboard yoga. Lifeguards patrol the Palm Beach side, which has easier parking. Visitors can also reach the creek via a 15-minute walk through Burleigh Head National Park from Burleigh Hill. Nearby food spots include Custard Canteen for Portuguese tarts, Tallebudgera Surf Club where kids' meals start at $13.50, and rooftop dining at Frida Sol in Palm Beach.
Main Beach: Located north near sand dunes and large resorts, this white sand beach stretches to The Spit—a dog-friendly area with views of South Stradbroke Island. It is a common location for surf lessons and marks the start of the 36-kilometre Gold Coast Oceanway walking and cycling path. Fresh seafood is available at Gold Coast Fishermen's Co-Op directly from the trawler, while The Winey Cow serves all-day brunch.
Surfers Paradise: The region's primary tourist hub features high-rise views, arcade halls, and the 270-metre-high SkyPoint Climb. High-rises cast shadows over the sand by 3:00pm. A wide paved boulevard offers paths for walking, biking, skateboarding, and outdoor gym equipment. Accessibility features like beach matting and wheelchairs operate from September to May. Beachfront Markets run on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Dining options include BMD Northcliffe Surf Club, Sandbar Surfers Paradise, and drinks at The Island Rooftop.
Broadbeach: Offers a slightly less high-rise backdrop than Surfers Paradise alongside resort stays.
