Gold Coast's New Japanese Oasis: Nigiwai Brings Sushi Truffle Shots and Premium Sashimi to Broadbeach
Nigiwai is dishing up sushi truffle shots and premium sashimi.
Gold Coasters, it's time to put down that takeaway sushi roll.
Nigiwai Japanese Restaurant has opened at Oasis Shopping Centre in Broadbeach, bringing premium sashimi, sushi and a few unexpected twists to the table.
The brains behind the venue is hospitality veteran Kopchai Aramworapaisan, working with a seasoned team also known for Spice Kitchen & Bar at Oasis Broadbeach, Seaside Kitchen & Bar in Burleigh and Noodle Bar at Pacific Fair. After years of running Thai and Asian restaurants, they're now turning Japanese — and this is no ordinary sushi stop.
The result is Nigiwai, a Japanese name that speaks to vibrancy, liveliness and the joy of gathering together — values reflected in the restaurant's authentic flavours, quality ingredients and welcoming atmosphere.
The interiors, designed by Sydney architecture firm The Calabur, follow the same philosophy, pairing clean lines and natural materials like timber with Japanese touches such as paper lanterns and bonsai trees. There's indoor seating for relaxed lunches and dinners, plus alfresco booths for those who prefer to dine outdoors.
Kopchai and his team have partnered with an established Japanese restaurant group operating across Southeast Asia, with head chef Yuki Emoto leading the kitchen. Emoto brings decades of Japanese culinary experience and worked closely with the team to build the menu and train the kitchen in core Japanese techniques.

Freshness is the star of this extensive menu. The Nigiwai Premium Sashimi Set arrives artfully arranged over ice, loaded with salmon, tuna, kingfish, Hokkaido scallops, salmon roe, sea urchin, shiso and wasabi. There's also the Hotate Carpaccio, pairing delicate Hokkaido scallops with salmon roe, capers, shallots, chilli oil and a ponzu citrus dressing.
Sushi lovers should seek out the Omakase Sushi Set, featuring salmon, tuna, hamachi, kingfish, Hokkaido scallop, surf clam, grilled eel, salmon roe and sea urchin with Japanese rice and wasabi.
Then there are the dishes that take the menu off the traditional track. The Hotate Sushi Truffle Shot is a bite-sized flavour bomb, combining Hokkaido scallop with shrimp roe, ginger, green onions, Japanese rice and creamy truffle sauce. Nigiwai Treasure lives up to its name — a culinary chest filled with minced salmon, tuna and kingfish with salmon roe, black shrimp roe and green onion.
For a little cross-cultural kitchen magic, the Tom Yum Kung Pasta tosses spaghetti with premium prawns, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, chilli and a spicy tom yum sauce — Japanese restaurant meets Thai comfort food, with pasta along for the ride.
The drinks keep the fusion flowing, from the Matcha Coconut Cloud (premium matcha, coconut cream and vanilla blended into a creamy dessert-style sip) to the Lychee Yuzu Martini (vodka, lychee and yuzu for a zesty cocktail).

Yes, Broadbeach is already overflowing with foodie gems, but here at Inside Gold Coast, we reckon there's always room for one more.
