Forget the standard white-cube gallery — art marketplace Art Again marks its third anniversary with a sprawling showcase that pairs nostalgic riverside scenes with nude paintings, two genres rarely exhibited side by side. Catch this unexpected combination at Nauti: All Things Naughty and Nautical, running from August 22 to 30, 2026, at vintage furniture store Objects.re.
The pairing is deliberate. Over three years in Singapore's art market, Art Again observed these two motifs surfacing repeatedly in mid-20th-century Singaporean art. On one side: bumboats, quays and the Singapore River — once celebrated as symbols of a young nation charting its course. On the other: works centred on the human body — nude studies, bathers and figurative pieces that, while equally common, were traditionally collected and displayed far more discreetly.
This is Art Again's largest exhibition to date, gathering more than 50 works from 15 private collections by some of Singapore's most influential artists: Cheong Soo Pieng, Chua Ek Kay, Anthony Poon, Teng Nee Cheong, Lim Tze Peng, Ng Eng Teng, Sarkasi Said, Jimmy Ong, Wong Keen and more.
Highlights include works by Cheong Soo Pieng, a pioneer of the Nanyang art movement that fused European modernism with Southeast Asian subjects to create a distinctly local visual language; and Teng Nee Cheong, renowned for his richly decorative, Balinese-inspired compositions and sensual nude studies.
Every piece on display is drawn from a private collection and is available for purchase.
