Toronto's The Bentway Reopens Iconic Figure-Eight Skate Trail for Summer — Free Admission

Get ready to lace up: The Bentway's beloved figure-eight skate trail is returning next month for the rest of the summer season.

With the FIFA World Cup frenzy winding down, Toronto's The Bentway is back in action, reopening its 200-metre skating trail beneath the Gardiner Expressway for another round of summer roller skating.

Beyond the skating itself, visitors can join a packed lineup of community events this summer — from roller skate parties and beginner lessons to art workshops and family programming. There's even a brand-new after-school program designed for young city-builders.

"The energy of the World Cup doesn't end with the final match — it lives on in the public spaces where people continue to gather, play, and connect," says Anna Gallagher-Ross, director of programming at The Bentway.

"Whether you're lacing up roller skates for the first time, making art with friends old and new, taking your family on a Dino Run, or discovering a new perspective on Toronto through our After School program, we've designed experiences for all ages that celebrate movement, creativity, exploration, and time spent together in public space."

What to Expect at The Bentway This Year

The action kicks off on August 7 with what organizers are calling "The Bentway's legendary Roller Skate Party," co-hosted by BEATS + SKATES and The Melanin Skate Crew. This free community celebration brings together DJs, live painting, skate performances, and local vendors — setting the vibe for the entire season ahead.

A limited two-for-one roller skate rental deal will be available during the opening event, while supplies last.

Never skated before? No problem — weekly Roller Skate Lessons run every Friday evening through September, designed to welcome total beginners.

Hours: Fridays 5–9 p.m., Saturdays & Sundays 1–8 p.m.

Cost: Skating is free; skate rentals from $18 (plus tax)

Roller Skate Lessons

Dates: August 7 to September 25, 2026
Times: Two sessions — 6:30–7:30 p.m. or 7:30–8:30 p.m.

Cost: $15 (equipment rental not included); registration required

Art Socials with Noble Space

Dates: Now through August 25, 2026
Hours: Tuesdays 6:30–8:30 p.m.
Location: The Bentway Studio, 55 Fort York Blvd.
Cost: $15 (plus fees); registration required
