Philippines Tops Southeast Asian Tourist Arrivals to Taiwan — Kaohsiung Searches Surge 65% as Emerging Hotspot
The Philippines has emerged as the number one Southeast Asian source market for travellers to Taiwan! According to digital travel platform Agoda's accommodation search data for the first half of 2026, the Philippines is now Taiwan's largest Southeast Asian visitor market, with Kaohsiung experiencing a dramatic surge in search interest to become a new favourite among international travellers.

Statistics from Taiwan's Tourism Administration show that Filipino visitor arrivals to Taiwan surpassed 210,000 in the first quarter of 2026 alone, representing a 43% increase compared to the same period last year. Agoda further reports that the Philippines is not only Taiwan's biggest Southeast Asian source market but also the fastest-growing, with search volumes up 46% year-on-year.
Looking at overall Southeast Asian traveller preferences for Taiwan destinations, Taipei remains the most-searched city by volume. However, Kaohsiung has claimed the title of 'fastest-growing city' with an impressive 65% year-on-year increase in search interest.
Zooming in on the Filipino market specifically, beyond Kaohsiung, Kinmen and Pingtung have also seen explosive search growth — both surpassing the 200% mark — while Tainan recorded a 135% increase. These destinations are rich in historical heritage, distinctive architecture, natural landscapes, and a relaxed pace of life, indicating that Filipino travellers are increasingly venturing beyond the major metropolitan hubs to explore more locally authentic travel experiences across Taiwan.
